Comparing quotes

Six things that change the real cost

Headline prices are rarely comparable. These are the questions that decide what you will actually spend over three years.

Annual licence or subscription

Most GP website providers charge an annual fee that covers the platform, hosting and a level of support. Published prices in general practice commonly sit in the low hundreds to over a thousand pounds a year depending on inclusions.

Setup, design or migration fees

Some providers charge a one-off build or migration fee on top of the annual price. Ask whether content transfer and redirects are included or billed separately.

Content updates

A site is cheap to buy and expensive to neglect. Check whether updates are self-service only, included as a managed service, or charged per change.

Accessibility work

WCAG 2.2 AA conformance and an accessibility statement should be part of the product, not a paid extra after a complaint.

Domain and ownership

Confirm the practice owns its domain and can take its content elsewhere. Exit costs are a real part of the total cost of ownership.

Contract length

Multi-year lock-ins reduce the headline price but remove your ability to leave if service drops.
